ABSTRACT ▼

Dear readers and authors of the journal "Economy and forecasting"!
For over 22 years, we have walked side by side in the scientific field, made discoveries together and rejoiced at good research, tried to understand problems, analyze the past and predict the future, and did not interrupt our research and our cooperation even after February 24, 2022, when the neighboring nation launched a full-scale war against us.
Continuing our work in difficult conditions, during shelling and alarms, we began to calculate the economic losses inflicted on our country by the invader, and to construct the possibilities of recovery and came to the conclusion that it is necessary not just to restore the old, but to reconstruct it on a new basis. And for this purpose, in addition to the aid of interested countries, it is necessary to attract all endogenous forces and consolidate all our efforts.
In a certain way, this led us to think about a synergy of the two scientific media, whose founder and publisher is the Institute for Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, namely, the journals "Economy and Forecasting" and "Economy of Ukraine". Although the two journals have different histories, different publication records ("Economy and Forecasting" has been published since 2000, and "Economy of Ukraine" since 1958), and different headings, despite individual emphasis on certain research methods (like, for example, the modeling techniques in "Economy and Forecasting"), both have the same overall focus on the study of economic problems of Ukraine in connection with global economic changes, the same authors, and actually the same audience.
That is, the understanding came that the Institute’s two journals are not competitors to each other, but just two similar media that have been walking in the same field for a long time, and it is now time to consolidate their efforts by combining their best practices. These best practices include guidelines, methods, English-language publications, the blind peer review, free access to articles, the unwavering adherence to the principles of integrity and open science, access to various databases, primarily those of economic orientation, and finally and most importantly - the desire to participate in the recovery of our country. And our intention is to use all that above mentioned potential to shape an adequate scientific basis of Ukraine’s economy, and to create a full-fledged platform for training and integration into the global economic research community based of a unified journal.
Therefore, from the second half of 2023, a single scientific journal called "Economy of Ukraine" will start publishing. Subscribers of the online version of “Economy and Forecasting" will receive online versions of "Economy of Ukraine" in the second half of the year. All archives of both the Ukrainian-language and English-language versions of "Economy and Forecasting" remain available for public use.
We are grateful to our authors who conducted research and shared their findings and discoveries with us, we are grateful to our readers who have been with us all these years, subscribed to "Economy and Forecasting" and were interested in our articles in public access on the website!
We are sure that we will not lose either our authors or our readers as a result of this merger, and we will all do our best to make the unified "Economy of Ukraine" the flagship of economic science not only in our country, but also in European and global dimension!
