The article investigates the problem of developing the market of plastic cards in Ukraine as well as its prospects and importance for financial and banking sector of this country. Further, the author characterizes the Ukrainian market of international plastic cards, analyses the situation with the ATM networks and POS-Terminals and draws the conclusion about the future development of the market. At the same time, the author describes the obstacles in the way of intensive introduction of plastic cards and checks in Ukraine. These include: the general situation in the economy, large-scaled swindling with plastic cards, and shortcomings in Ukrainian civil and criminal law.
